Learning to play the drums is a great way not only to your feelings of music, but the benefits are not many other music related. These include the continuation of your brain, your cardiovascular system pumping and muscles and, of course, improve your cool factor!

If you’ve never played the drums, you may not have battery. Do not worry! There are some basics that you can learn without even need a drum kit. Importantly, begin typing on your lap. See if you can press any music you hear in time. You’ll soon instinctively tap run – it is a normal feature of drummers, something that my friends always end up screaming at me to stop! It is addictive after a very short time to accept that you said “Stop typing!” At a time too!

There are some great exercises that you can start. Simply tap your hands – R, L, R, L, R, R, L, L (called “slices” written as R, L, etc.) and repeat again and again until you can get up speed and possibly finger at super speeds! You should also begin to reverse this trend with the first left hand.

There are online books and numerous downloadable courses, you can use the bases of high technology to teach drums.

Here are three basic exercises core are so familiar as walking. You also need to play, build speed as you feel more comfortable:

Single Stroke Roll: Stabbing is R, L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R, L, etc.
Double Stroke Roll: R, R, L, L, R, R, L, L, R, R, L, L, etc.
Paradiddle: RL, R, R, L, R, L, L, R, L, R, R, L, R, L, L, etc.

The next phase of learning to play drums yourself a pair of chopsticks! There are several types of drum sticks depending on the materials they are made, and there are hundreds of different sizes. You can stick wooden body, plastic sticks and sticks of carbon body. I do not recommend wooden sticks when they give you the best feel and weight when playing. They really affect the sound you get from a drum kit. Subsequently, the end of the stick is very important.

You get wood or nylon “advice, which is actually a piece of plastic. I am not a fan of the tip of shiny nylon as they are healthy, just not quite natural. I prefer wooden boards, and especially small pea size tips. There are many different sizes of the summit and all it really depends on what you want. The more tear drop tip gives a fairly good overall but the PEA-tip size gives a definition to those who want to play the intricate cymbals. But it is much further down the line!

For now, I would just recommend you take a few formats 5A sticks. DW I use chopsticks while many manufacturers, like Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Zildjan well.

First you have:

1 – A pair of chopsticks
2 – The equipment for practice. There are some great books out there. A beginner’s book of good will basis.
3 – A carpet of Practice – This is a rubber that gives you a feeling similar and bounce that you would get a drum set, but no where near the same amount of noise. I have a permanent installation in my room, I go up and down all day. You can sit on the TV while typing away (more if you’re alone!) And it is perfect to help you increase your speed. They are really cheap too.
4 – a metronome – this is very important as a fundamental right, the drum is high time to keep, so you should start using that famous metronome click beats at different speeds defined by the user and help you to keep time internalize.

Well that’s it for today I will write more to you in the next section. For now, make sure you lay hands on the points above and start learning these three exercises by heart. You are the first steps to learn to play drums.
