Historian Guy Bill Gray is undoubtedly the music and history. So if you’re a fan of both, I am sure that you want her latest book, given the Bravo! Greatness of Italian Music, published by University Press Dante. I must say immediately that I really enjoyed this witty account of what many consider an important historical text with deep well-researched information on his chosen subject. This is very true! But there were subtle little touches that added to my personal pleasure, such as:

· Its use decisions rather than the common “chapter” to separate the materials.
· His choice to remind both Pavarotti and Sinatra on the cover of the scope of its content is displayed.
His recording · asides small differences of personal opinion and / or trafficking of humor, which normally would never appear in a major research effort, as his personal remarks about the ballet: “How perverse is that the masculine soul who drives men to create the physical means women hobble “(p. 144)
· And finally, the inclusion of many historical photographs and many beautiful hand-drawn portraits of the University Press Dante.

Do not doubt that this book will be an important reference for students in music has become!

The back cover, “the Italians have been so busy with the creation and production of beautiful music, they have not respected the epic story to tell of their wonderful performance.” Indeed, the author “a .. . Italy’s contribution to music is very much higher. (p. 234), the curtain on the same page shows 14 areas of music in which the Italians Excel! Obviously, creating quality instruments, operas, symphonies and are only a few.

Let me illustrate by pointing out that names many of you can easily recognize: Gregory, composed of Gregorian chants, Stradivari, manufacturers of stringed instruments, Paganini, Monteverdi’s first genius of the opera, Verdi , Caruso, Pavarotti, and one of my favorites, Andrea Bocelli, who is involved in both opera and contemporary music and even sang in advertising – How cool is that!

If you do not recognize those who are involved in classical music, how about: Anna Maria Alberghetti, Mario Lanza, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Jim Croce, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Frankie Lane, Jerry Vale, Sonny Bono, Jerry Colonna, Perry Como, Tony Bennett and, of course, Frank Sinatra.

Imagine! I emphasized that people whose names you probably recognize. I think you’ll find that this book much more than a handbook for students! Anyone interested in music are personal stories and biographical information on these fascinating people!

Italians and Italian Americans, there is “more the music has lost,” and made by others, this is a powerful statement, is not it? Bill Gray, statistics – figures such as back -up that interest you. I think anyone who pauses to reflect on the great music they have come to love, they will realize that the impact of the genius of Italian music has done all their lives.
